Kitchen remodels with GID Renovation start at $20K. Where your project lands above that depends on scope: the size of the room, whether the layout changes, the cabinets and counters you pick, and what we find behind the walls. You get a real number, in writing, after a free in-home measure and a design session at our Raleigh showroom.

That's the honest answer to "how much does it cost to renovate a kitchen?" Anyone who quotes you a firm price over the phone, before seeing the room, is guessing. Below is what actually moves the price, where you can save without cutting corners, and how to get a quote you can plan around.

What drives the cost of a kitchen remodel

Size of the room

More square feet means more cabinets, more countertop, more flooring and more tile. A galley kitchen and an open kitchen with a large island can be very different projects even in the same house.

Keeping the layout or changing it

This is usually the biggest swing. If the sink, range and refrigerator stay where they are, the plumbing, gas and electrical stay mostly where they are too. Moving the sink to an island, relocating the range, or opening a wall means new lines, new circuits and sometimes structural work.

A useful way to think about it:

  • Refresh. Same layout. New cabinets, countertops, backsplash, sink, faucet and lighting.
  • Full remodel, same layout. Everything comes out down to the studs, but the work triangle stays put.
  • Full remodel, new layout. Walls, plumbing and electrical move. This is where an island usually gets added.

Cabinets

Cabinets are often the largest single line in a kitchen budget. Price depends on construction, finish, door style, and how many tall or specialty cabinets you need, like pantry pull-outs, drawer stacks or an appliance garage.

Delinea, our own frameless European-style line, is built in Raleigh and made to the size of your room. That means no filler panels to cover gaps, and it comes with soft-close Blum, Hafele or Hettich hardware and a limited lifetime warranty.

Countertops

Material and total square footage set the price. Quartz is a popular choice because it is durable and low-maintenance. Natural stone like granite or marble varies more from slab to slab. See quartz vs. granite for the tradeoffs.

Appliances, lighting and electrical

A bigger range, a vent hood that needs new ductwork, under-cabinet lighting, or new circuits for an island all add to the electrical and mechanical scope. Reusing appliances you already like is one of the easier ways to keep cost down.

Flooring and tile

If the floor is coming up anyway, new flooring is part of the project. Backsplash cost depends on the tile and how much wall it covers.

Permits and inspections

Kitchen remodels that change plumbing, electrical or structure usually need permits and inspections. When your project needs them, we handle the permits, the inspections and any engineer appointments as part of the job.

What's behind the walls

Older homes sometimes need subfloor repairs, updated wiring or new plumbing once the old cabinets come out. A good contractor looks for these during the measure and plans for them in the quote, so they don't show up as surprises later.

How to update a kitchen on a budget

You don't have to change everything to get a kitchen that feels new.

  • Keep the layout. Leaving plumbing and gas where they are is the single biggest saving.
  • Put the money where you touch it. Cabinets, countertops and lighting change how the room looks and works every day.
  • Reuse what still works. Good appliances, a solid floor or a window you like can stay.
  • Pick durable materials, not trendy ones. Quartz counters and simple door styles hold up and won't look dated quickly.
  • Plan everything at once. Making decisions up front, before demolition, avoids costly changes halfway through.

What about bathrooms?

Bathroom remodels with GID start at $15K, from a new walk-in shower to a full primary bath. The same rule applies: the final price depends on scope. See bathroom remodeling for what's included.
